Priority need addressed

  • Reduce HWC and improve food security through the 10% Fence Plan Phase 3 
  • Provide Employment Opportunities through the Kamungi Scouts team  
  • Review Governance Structures and Improve Communication Channels in Kamungi 
  • Establish a tourism facility in Kamungi 

Project activities

  • Conduct community meetings with Community members and Kamungi Board to discuss beneficiaries of the 10% Fence Plan. 
  • Construct, Maintain and Monitor 3 10% fences 
  • Permanent employment of 5 community scouts from the Kamungi Conservancy 
  • Scouts to conduct frequent anti-poaching, monitoring patrols and community drop-in sessions 
  • Review of Kamungi Conservancy Governance Structures to ensure elected individuals are chosen by the community and their roles are understood, ensuring gender and youths are factored in. 
  • Implement and Maintain a grievance mechanism and a Bulk communication system for Kamungi Conservancy. 
  • Construction of a small eco-tourism facility, training Kamungi board members in administration and 6 community youths in hospitality. 

The change the project implementation will bring for the protected area(s)

The expected change to be brought about by the project will be to actively involve the local communities in conservation efforts, through the creation of buffers to the National Parks, giving them control over the conservation efforts which directly affect them, whilst also incorporating livelihood improvements such as job opportunities, long term and sustainable revenue stream to enhance community ownership and food security through HWC mitigation.
