BIOPAMA’s MGs support projects that address clear priorities in terms of protected/conserved areas management and governance, sustainable use of natural resources and livelihood of surrounding local communities of the priority areas. The priorities must be identified by diagnostic tools. The MGs fund between EUR 100 000 – EU 400 000, with 5% co-financing required.
The BIOPAMA (Biodiversity and Protected Areas Management) Action Component provides crucial funding opportunities aimed at enhancing the management and governance of protected and conserved areas in Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific. These grants support a wide range of initiatives, from improving biodiversity conservation to promoting the sustainable use of natural resources. The program offers various types of grants, including Small Technical Grants (STGs) for addressing specific, clearly identified needs, and Medium Grants (MGs) for more comprehensive projects that tackle broader conservation priorities
One of the key features of BIOPAMA grants is their focus on local and regional impact. By enabling protected area agencies, NGOs, local communities, and other key stakeholders to implement targeted actions, these grants help address urgent conservation challenges on the ground. The program also includes Rapid Response Grants (RRGs) designed to increase the resilience of protected areas and local communities in the face of emergencies, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Overall, BIOPAMA grants play a vital role in supporting effective conservation efforts and fostering sustainable development across the regions they serve.
